User & Task Analysis

VR Systems had identified 7 personas for their EViD system. I reviewed the personas to understand their information needs in a website & their roles in purchasing voting systems.

I identified each persona’s tasks and pain points when making voting system purchasing decisions. These findings guided my decisions regarding the information we should display on the website.

Competitive Analysis

VR Systems has a number of competitors. I reviewed websites of 7 competitors, with a special focus on the home screen, taxonomy, site navigation, case studies, testimonials, product & service organization, and CTA/Demos. I identified successful mental models to apply to my new design. And I uncovered content gaps that VR Systems could exploit to better explain and promote their products & services.

User Stories

The development team worked in an Agile environment. We wanted to define and chuck the website requirements to align with the coding schedule. We also wanted to clarify success, so I designed acceptance criteria by which the website could be tested.

Agile Method to Create User Stories

  • Defined key UX tasks and functionality on the website.
  • Created a detailed list of requirements for each section in the site, covering the interaction model, content, and design for VR customers and for VR marketing employees who maintained the content.
  • Identified acceptance criteria for a successful interaction.

Site Map

I had two goals for the site map & navigation. First, I needed to create an MVP framework that would allow for growth of products and content. Secondly, I needed to consider the data I uncovered during the competitive analysis and task analysis.

VR Systems marketing research had indicated that most people came to their website after they had learned about the company. I prioritized the information so that the Products and Solutions sections were first. And I moved About to the third position since fewer people reviewed that information.

The Products and Solutions sections could accommodate a third level of screens if the marketing team wanted to develop feature pages.

Many potential customers heard about VR Systems from current customers. They wanted to feel assured that others they knew were happy with their choices. I included a section called Case Studies, which discussed successes, and also included a sub-section with testimonials.
